MY STORY

My name is Felicity Henry and I have always known that I wanted to have a positive impact on this world. My journey, that has included a personal battle with mental health issues, being a contestant on Survivor and then becoming a support worker and mother, have all shaped who I am today and have put me on the path of helping people. My experiences, whilst not always positive, highlighted the value of a positive support network, but most importantly, the lack of authentic support services available. I became determined to change our approach to mental health and disability support services. I recognised that I had the experience, passion and platform to be able to advocate for mental health and disability and so ‘The Positivity Movement’ was born. The Positivity Movement is not just a support service, it is the community I have needed, it is the safe space we have all hoped for and it is a platform that advocates for change and awareness.

This is my story…

From a young age I dealt with anxiety throughout my day-to-day life. Although I seemed very happy on the outside, I was very insecure, anxious and always comparing my life to others. I struggled to feel proud of my own accomplishments or even understand who I was and what I wanted. Whilst, I have always strived to the best I could be, I was consumed by a need to compare myself to others and as a result, I felt like I was never good enough. When I was 19 my grandmother passed away. This moment was soul destroying as she was my greatest source of love and motivation. While grieving, I fell into a deep depression. I spent years on pharmaceuticals which helped but also hindered my own recovery as I began to rely on them too much. I used alcohol as a coping mechanism at a young age and unfortunately this became a toxic routine for me throughout my early twenties.

In 2016 I saw a TV commercial for the TV show Survivor. Having been a huge fan of Survivor, I knew that the experience would test me physically and mentally and be the biggest and best challenge of my life. It was exactly what I needed to change my mindset. Survivor changed my life. I was in an environment that was completely out of my comfort zone and I had to confront every single fear and insecurity I carried. Ultimately, I learnt more about myself then I ever could have imagined. After my first time competing on Survivor, I found a new purpose in life. I knew I was here to make a difference and share my story. When I finished my time on the show, I studied my Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Support and began my journey of being a Support Worker by helping others “Find Your Joy”.

In 2022, I became a first-time mum. The birth of my beautiful son including the instant, profound love I had for him, but also the struggles I faced played a pivotal role in the confirming the faith I have in the need for ‘The Positivity Movement’. I never could have imagined how isolating being a new parent could be. It wasn’t until I began sharing my journey on my social media platforms about my experience with Post Natal Anxiety & Sleep Deprivation (thanks largely to my son suffering from Reflux & Colic and being born in the height of a pandemic), that I realised there were many new mum’s in the same position- struggling, searching for answers and needing friendship, support and direction. Suddenly, the premise of ‘The Positivity Movement’ expanded and my focus shifted. I could clearly see that we didn’t need a niche’ or to focus on a particular avenue of mental health or disability. We are ALL human and we all face various hardships, adversity, challenges and life changes where we need a support network. Whether you have a physical or intellectual disability, are battling depression, anxiety or are a new mum who is overwhelmed and feeling a bit lost…we all need to have a place to turn that is safe and that will listen and help us see the light.

I used to feel ashamed to tell my story and I would worry about the public response to me from being on a television show. But now, I am proud to share my journey as I know that I have been through some of the most difficult times and have come through the other side and have seen how sharing my story and being a source of support for others has made a difference. I hope to continue to inspire others to do the same. I hope to pass my hope on through The Positivity Movement and encourage people to believe that no matter what we go through in life, we can overcome our challenges and live a fulfilled happy life by using the right tools.

I hope that sharing just a glimpse of my story has helped you, whether you are going through a hard time or know of someone that is. The most important message of all is that we need to be supportive of one another, listen, talk, and create the change in Mental Health that desperately needs to be made.

You are beautiful, you are loved, and you can do this!

MY STORY

Hi, I’m Felicity Henry, and I’ve always known that I wanted to make a positive impact in this world. My journey—one that includes a personal battle with mental health, being a contestant on Survivor, becoming a mother, and eventually becoming a counselor—has shaped me into the person I am today and led me to the path of helping others. Through my experiences, both challenging and rewarding, I came to understand the importance of a positive support network and, more importantly, the lack of authentic mental health resources. This realization inspired me to create The Positivity Movement.

The Positivity Movement is my way of giving back—to raise awareness around mental health, provide guidance, and encourage others to find their joy. It’s a platform for sharing stories, supporting one another, and promoting positivity in everyday life. This is my story.

This is my story...

Growing up, I struggled with anxiety and insecurity. On the outside, I appeared happy, but inside, I was constantly comparing myself to others, feeling inadequate, and unsure of my purpose. I had a lot of personal struggles as a teenager and relied heavily on alcohol to try and run away from them.  Then at the age of 19, I lost my grandmother, who was my greatest source of love and support, and the grief took me into a deep depression. I relied on pharmaceuticals and recreational drugs which at the time “helped me” but also hindered my recovery, and continued to use alcohol as a coping mechanism, leading to toxic habits in my early twenties.

In 2016, I saw a commercial for Survivor. As a longtime fan of the show, I knew it would challenge me physically and mentally, and it turned out to be just what I needed to shift my mindset. It was life-changing. I faced fears and insecurities head-on, learned more about myself than I ever could have imagined, and came out the other side with a newfound purpose: to help others. After competing on Survivor, I studied to become a Mental Health Peer Support Worker working in the field for many years, before finally studying counselling.

In 2022 I became a mother and again in 2024. The deep, overwhelming love I felt for my sons was unlike anything I’d ever experienced, but the challenges of new motherhood,  including Postnatal Anxiety and Sleep Deprivation, opened my eyes to the importance of support during difficult times. I shared my experiences on social media, and to my surprise, many other new mothers reached out, revealing they were struggling with similar feelings of isolation and exhaustion. That’s when I realized The Positivity Movement needed to expand—because we all face hardships, and everyone deserves a place to turn for support and connection.

I used to feel embarrassed about sharing my story, worried about how people would perceive me after appearing on television. But now, I’m proud to share it because I’ve come through some of the toughest times in my life. By sharing my experiences, I’ve been able to help others, and it’s my hope that The Positivity Movement continues to do the same.

My mission is simple: to inspire others to believe that no matter what life throws at us, we can overcome it and live a fulfilling, happy life. With the right tools, the right mindset, and the right community, anything is possible.

I hope that by sharing a part of my story, you feel supported—whether you’re navigating a difficult time or know someone who is. The most important thing I’ve learned is that we all need to be there for one another. Let’s talk, listen, and create the change in mental health that’s so desperately needed.

You are beautiful, you are loved, and you can do this!
